Landlord's son accused of raping 8-year-old in Okara

OKARA: An eight-year-old girl was raped by the son of a landlord in the Tahta Joyo village of Okara district's Qasba Akber area on Friday.

The minor girl, who was a labourer's daughter, was abducted and subjected to rape after she left her home to buy milk.

The girl's mother and maternal uncle took her to a nearby hospital where doctors after examining the victim confirmed that she had been subjected to sexual assault.

The victim's family members accused the local police of non-cooperation.

"We are poor hard-working people. We went to the police station but no one heard our pleas over there because the accused are landlords," a relative of the girl told Dawn.

The family members also appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, demanding justice for the girl and arrest of the perpetrators.

A First Information Report (FIR) of the incident was lodged at the Saddar Bugera police station. Police officials also claimed that raids were being conducted for the arrest of the accused and said he would be apprehended soon.

There is a need to take strict action against police officials who refuse to cooperate or fail to perform their duty in such matters. Suspending these officials is not enough. They should be nominated in the FIR as collaborators of the accused.

By reading news reports these things remain always common; 1. " The accused were from an affluential family( as in the above case)" 2." The police was not registering FIR( police was not cooperating)" Solution: Govt should make police so strong that they can bring the perpetrators to prison irrespective of their status( Minister son, landlord son, zamindar son etc...

Whenever I read the comments. All I see is bashing the institutions in Pakistan. I know they are corrupt and useless. Do we have the right to protest in out country. How many people have gone out on streets demanding justice.Only u can change the status quo. Form kind of public voice group and make dharnay in font of SC. Are u going to do any of that sort. The treatment of poor in Pakistan is not new, but heart breaking. Te atrocities has to sop and has to stop now. In civilized world this case would have caused several arrests and many in law enforced would have been fired for not registering a complaint. Wht a shame.

To all Indians commenting and lambasting Pakistan over this issue, please have a look at your own house as well.. There are nearly 25,000 registered rape case in India last year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_India). Times of India says it is actually around 33,000 as there are 93 rape cases in India everyday (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/93-women-are-being-raped-in-India-every-day-NCRB-data-show/articleshow/37566815.cms) Go and get justice for those women before you come over here

Please live India & Pakistan out of debate. Both have rapists, criminals and good people too. Just debate on a issue. Rape is rape. We need eliminate wadera, landlord system from Pakistan ASAP. We have a beautiful religion Islam which teaches us respect of women, minorities, Neighbors , etc. Are we fulfilling ALLAH's commandments? No, so please stop raising your finger on others and correct yourself. Not like Imran Khan, against corruption and landlords and on other hand all corrupt landlords around him.

Education of common civility is important. Laws are only for court to interpret. Proper education plays important role in nation building. Unfortunately people are educated on inhuman way, uncivil manner and people look for the loop-holes of laws to commit crimes. Just do good... Commit no mistake intentionally... Do justice to your neighbor... Don't behave irrationally to other minority people....

Police not co-operating with the victim ? Any surprise in this ? The thing is that while police is and has always been co-operating with the culprits and so no chance of co-operating with the victim. Now police claims that the culprit would be arrested soon. No chance, and even if arrested the investigating officer would give him a clean chit and he will be released. End of story...as it has always....always been. Ever heard of any influential / big gun getting punished ? Even if the case is not put under the carpet even then the police is most likely to pressurize the victim and her family to stop pursuing the case with any intensity.

Nothing will ever happen against crimes like that unless some visionary leader is born in Pakistan and change the entire existing useless constitution of Pakistan which will equally work for common poor man on the street not only for rich and influencial people of Pakistan as it is now. There mustn't be any mercy for rapist even if he is son of VIPS. His genitial part must be remove and let him live for life without wasting tax payer money to put him behind bars and feed him for free. Constituation books needs to be practical not a show piece on the shelves.
