Shukriya is a Urdu word, taken from Arabic Shukram, so it indicates towards Pakistanis.

Is it due to Pakistan's support for the club, or because PIA had a major role in establishing Emirates as an airline?

Stop the nonsense of telling the obvious that its all about money!!
Earning money is every one's duty and right!! Its all about the way and discipline you are earning money that matters..
Emirates have proven to prove their value for what they get paid for..
So shuriya Emirates and Arsenal...We hope this gesture shall increase investment well being in Pakistan.

@Talha Oh how poorly informed you are, team's name is Atlético de Kolkata due to the team being partly owned by Spanish La Liga side, Atlético Madrid. I hope you get the drift and yeah 'wannabe" fits well on pakistan trying to be everything India-obsessed. Peace.

smart move to get all UK Pakistanis to support the club. There are about 1 million people of Pakistani decent in UK. Also, Emirates might buy 50% of Pakistan International Airlines.

@Sunil The correct Arabic word is shukran شکراً whereas Urdu is Shukriya شکریہ
While in Persian it is Tashakur (تشکر ) and in Turkish it is Tashukuler (teşekkürler)
These all derived from Shukar

AoA! UK is truly a brotherly nation. So many of Pakistani brothers and sisters have contributed to the UK society and her economy. Too bad that in recent years visa restrictions have made it difficult for Pakistanis to travel to UK. I hope UK recognizes the contributions our doctors and engineers have made to UK, and the love and admiration we have for them. Islam is the fastest growing religion in Europe, and UK and Pakistan must work together to improve the ties of both nations.

DAWN, PZ DON'T BLOCK THIS; I DON'T SEE ANYTHING OFFENSIVE IN MY REPLY
In reply Lalu, can I copy-paste from the Arsenal website? This is a May 2013 report --- uploaded more than a year ago. (By the way, you may also want to check what Chelsea is up to....their officials visited Delhi way back in 2007)...
"Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that India on Track (IOT) has joined its family of partners.
The new long-term deal gives the Mumbai-based corporation the opportunity to open official Arsenal Soccer Schools throughout India and utilise a range of marketing rights to promote the schools and the IOT organisation.
The partnership with India on Track allows Arsenal to establish a long-term commitment to developing grass-roots football in the country while connecting with a passionate and rapidly growing fanbase....."
(There is more Lalu, I don't know if there is enough space here)

@Talha
Laugh as much as you want Talha, your loss. Atlético Madrid is actually a co-owner...
The team is owned by Kolkata Games and Sports Pvt. Ltd. which consists of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly, businessmen Harshavardhan Neotia (cement and real estate), Sanjiv Goenka (power generation and supply ) and Spanish club Atlético Madrid.
The team is managed by former Bolivia and Valencia manager Antonio López Habas and the team will play their home matches at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Remember, these people go to people with money.

@Calcutta Man So? Real Madrid has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aman foundation to open 2 schools in Karachi and this deal was done back in November 2012. India should have dozens of football academies right now with all that money and population you have but no. you guys cant even produce a single player worthy of mentioning somewhere.
