KARACHI, Dec 3: Dismissing all allegations levelled by Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain, the Jamaat-i-Islami said on Tuesday evening that those who torched the national flag at the Quaid’s mausoleum were demanding a ban on JI and the Islami Jamiat Tulaba.

Reacting to the MQM chief’s demand for imposition of a ban on the JI, a spokesman for the party said the “history of MQM was filled with terrorism and target killing”.

He alleged that the MQM was not only involved in target killing of police and Rangers personnel but it was also responsible for the killing of armed forces men.

The spokesman recalled a letter written by the MQM chief to the British prime minister “against Pakistan Army and his speech against the creation of Pakistan” during his visit to India. He said the “allies of anti-state elements” were trying to divert attention of the masses from the sit-ins against Nato supplies and drone attacks.

He said the sacrifices of JI and IJT workers for the defence of the country were countless and part of history. “The JI is a peaceful and law-abiding party and it carries on its work in accordance with the constitution.”

The JI and IJT were playing a positive role in “character-building of thousands of youngsters who are discharging their obligations with honesty in different sectors”, he added.
