Indo-Pakistan convention to focus on Kashmir issue
KARACHI, Dec 2: The three-day joint convention of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy, being held here from Dec 12, will focus on the Kashmir issue and problems of the families divided between the two countries, the secretary-general of the forum’s Pakistan chapter, Anees Haroon said on
Tuesday.
About 250 delegates each from Pakistan and India, including writers, journalists, doctors and parliamentarians, will participate in the convention being held at a hotel.
They would also focus on new faces of imperialism, globalization and its impact on the subcontinent, she told PPI.
The theme of the convention is “Defy the divide, unite for peace”.
An economist from the Delhi University, Prof Patnaik Perbat, will be one of the keynote speakers.
The Indian delegates, including the forum’s president Dr Ashok Mitra and the secretary of the Indian chapter, Tatan Bose, would arrive on Dec 11 via the Wagah border, Mrs Haroon said.
The annual joint convention is held alternately in Pakistan and India but was not held in 2001 and 2002 due to the Sept 11 incidents and the attack on Indian parliament in 2001, she said.
The last convention was held in Bangalore in 2000.—PPI
