Hasan Raza puts Pakistan ‘A’ in strong position

KARACHI, May 8: An unbeaten century by vice-captain Hasan Raza guided Pakistan ‘A’ into a strong position against Zimbabwe ‘A’ in an unofficial four-day Test at the Country Club ground in Harare.

Hasan, the 23-year-old right-hander, struck an even 100 to help his side reach 270, which gave the tourists a first-innings lead of 79 during second day’s play on Saturday. The home team, who were 63 for three at stumps, made 235 in the second innings on Sunday, leaving Pakistan ‘A’ a target of 157.

Pakistan ‘A’ looked in trouble at 87 for four when Hasan arrived at the crease. But Hasan led a fine recovery as he unleashed nine fours and three sixes in a 178-ball knock that lasted just over four hours.

Wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider also excelled with an 89-ball 47 and put on 69 for the fifth wicket with Hasan.

Meanwhile, Neil Ferreira scored his second half century of the match when he made 90 in Zimbabwe ‘A’s second innings on the third day after resuming at 28. Wicket-keeper Ferreira, who hit 57 on Friday, stroked 10 boundaries during his 190-ball innings in a stay of 255 minutes.

Night-watchman Blessing Mahwire was the notable scorer for the hosts. He contributed 40 off 90 balls while helping Ferreira add 93 for the fourth wicket.

Paceman Mohammad Asif claimed four for 51.
