HYDERABAD: The Site area is experiencing significant disruptions to industrial production due to dilapidated roads, damaged drainage infrastructure, and prolonged power outages following recent heavy rains.
Trade and industry leaders have urged the Sindh government to implement concrete measures to ensure the smooth operation of industrial units during the monsoon season in future.
In a joint statement, Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade and Industry Chairman Zubair Ghanghra, Senior Vice Chairman Amir Shahab, Vice Chairman Essar Kumar, and General Secretary Mohammad Shahid Qaimkhani stated that the recent rains flooded roads, and rainwater entered several factories, bringing industrial work to a standstill.
They said that although the association had repeatedly requested better drainage and road repairs before the monsoon, no timely action was taken.
They added that, to make matters worse, the Site area remained without electricity for over 24 hours after the rains.
They argued that factory operations have been severely disrupted, while industrial labour has faced tremendous difficulties reaching their workplaces.
They said that Hyderabad Site was one of Pakistan’s major industrial areas, where 360 units were currently operating — down from 425 — and contributed Rs1bn in taxes to the government.
