ISLAMABAD: Director General of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, on Wednesday assured representatives of Green Enclave-I allottees that efforts were being made to remove obstacles hindering the completion of the long-delayed housing project and expressed optimism that development activities would resume soon.

“The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, during which various matters pertaining to Green Enclave-I, ongoing development activities, and issues being faced by the allottees were discussed in detail.

The DG attentively listened to the concerns and suggestions of the delegation and assured them that all genuine issues would be addressed on a priority basis.

He stated that FGEHA is making every possible effort to ensure the timely completion of its projects and the execution of quality development works, adding that Green Enclave-I remains one of the Authority’s key priorities,” read a press release issued by FGEHA.

The statement said the meeting was also attended by the Director Technical, Director Joint Venture, the concerned Project Director, Director Administration, and technical staff of Green Enclave-I.

The DG informed the delegation that practical measures were being implemented to accelerate development activities and that the Authority remained committed to keeping allottees informed of significant progress on a regular basis.

The allottees were assured that substantial progress was expected over the next two months, which would further support the completion and habitation of Green Enclave-I, the press release added.

Meanwhile, allottees told Dawn that their delegation comprised Chaudhary Amjad Ali, Ahsanul Haq, Amjad Khan, Saleem Khattak, Mohammad Fayyaz, Tahir Mahmood, Aslam Chaudhary, and Rana Arshad.

The meeting took place after allottees recently staged a protest outside the authority’s headquarters over prolonged delays in development work and the possession of plots.

Green Enclave-I, launched in 2009 for government employees, has remained incomplete for nearly 17 years, leaving thousands of allottees waiting for their promised residential plots.

Allottees said that during the meeting, the DG FGEHA referred to investigations by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), litigation and Supreme Court proceedings, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, all of which had adversely affected progress on the scheme.

According to allottees, the DG informed them that the key issue now centred on negotiations with the joint venture (JV) partner responsible for completing the remaining development work.

He said FGEHA had accepted all legally permissible conditions proposed by the JV partner and that only a few outstanding points remained under discussion.

“We are hopeful that these remaining issues will be settled within the next few weeks,” he said, requesting the allottees to remain patient for a little longer. Speaking on behalf of the allottees, Chaudhary Amjad Ali highlighted the hardships faced by affected families during the prolonged delay, saying many original allottees had passed away while waiting for possession of their plots.

“Today, their widows and children are still waiting for a shelter that was promised 17 years ago,” he said, urging immediate resumption of development work.

Another representative, Ahsan ul Haq, criticised the authority for failing to complete the project within the promised timeframe. Amjad Khan stressed the human dimension of the issue, saying many members had spent a significant portion of their lives waiting for possession.

Tahir Mahmood expressed hope that ongoing negotiations would be finalised soon and that halted development work would resume in July, paving the way for the eventual completion of the long-awaited housing scheme.
