QUETTA: The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta (MCQ) has announced a comprehensive plan to restructure and modernise the provincial capital, including the appointment of experts in key departments such as tax and revenue, horticulture and other sectors.
Speaking at a programme at the Quetta Press Club, MCQ administrator Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Qambrani said that 30 public toilets would be built across Quetta city within the next three months, while an additional 60 toilets would be built in the subsequent phase. He added that waiting areas would be established at 100 locations across the city to facilitate citizens.
To improve traffic management, Mr Qambrani said that 100 employees were being trained specifically for traffic-related duties.
He further announced that unnecessary U-turns in the city would be closed, certain areas would be declared no-parking zones, and some locations would be converted into walking areas to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. He said the MCQ was being fully transformed along modern lines and that, under this initiative, birth, death, and marriage certificates, as well as the complete record of metropolitan assets, would be digitised.
He added that under an agreement with the University of Balochistan, geo-tagging of all MCQ assets would be completed by Jan 10. He also announced that a mobile application of the Metropolitan Corporation would be launched soon.
Mr Qambrani said that two new wings had been established within the Metropolitan Corporation. Under the Horticulture Wing, a tree plantation campaign would be launched in March, during which trees would be planted across the city and staff would be deployed for their maintenance and care.
He added that the metropolitan nursery, along with details of tree species, their numbers, and other important information, was also being linked with a modern system. He said that under the Fine Arts Department, initiatives such as the installation of statues and wall paintings would be undertaken across the city to enhance Quetta’s beauty.
