Palestinian child arrives in US alone to get prosthetic

A 10-year-old Palestinian amputee has arrived in the US where she will receive a prosthetic limb, Al Jazeera reports according to Heal Palestine, an American nonprofit which helped organise her medical treatment.

Baylasan’s family home in Khan Younis was bombed by Israel in November, causing her to lose her leg.

She was evacuated to Egypt and made the journey from Cairo alone because her mother was also wounded in the bombing.

She arrived at Dulles airport outside of Washington, DC, to the raucous cheers of supporters.

“Being the tough, resilient kid that she is, she’s really determined to come here, get a new prosthetic leg, undergo physical therapy and learn how to walk again,” paediatrician and Heal Palestine co-founder Zeena Salman told Reuters.
