LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider on Sunday appointed Dr SM Turab Hussain as principal of Aitchison College.

A meeting of the Aitchison College board of governors was held under the chairmanship of Governor Mr Haider. Board members Ali Ayyaz Sadiq, Mustafa Ramday, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Khwaja Hassan were also present in the meeting.

The board had given approval of appointing Mr Hussain as principal of the college. The post of principal has been lying vacant for the last two months.

Former Aitchison College Principal Michael A. Thompson had resigned from his post, citing alleged interference of the Governor House in management of the college for a year or so.

The principal tendered his resignation as a protest after the then governor Balighur Rehman allowed a leave of absence and a complete fee waiver for a period of three years to two children of former bureaucrat and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema.

However, Mr Thompson was also asked to take back his resignation by the government but he did not do so.

Turab Hussain was working as associate professor of Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School.
