Poll security measures reviewed

KARACHI: Inspector General of Sindh Police Riffat Mukhtar Raja has reviewed security arrangements for the Feb 8 elections and asked police authorities to ensure implementation of a ban on carrying and displaying arms across the province.

Chairing a meeting here, he called for strengthening arrangements for maintaining peace and order in the city in view of recent violent incidents.

He said any information about even a minor incident should not be ignored and a timely follow-up action should be taken to prevent any untoward situation.

He called for an increasing intelligence network at polling stations and surrounding areas.

The IGP said that patrolling, random snap-checking of vehicles, reconnaissance and monitoring of areas should be enhanced.
