Another cold wave to hit Karachi from today

KARACHI: Another cold wave is likely to grip Karachi and other parts of the province from Sunday (today), the Met Office said on Saturday.

It said that the minimum temperature may fall to a single digit in several parts of the province in the next few days because of a westerly wave from Balochistan.

The westerly wave is affecting the whole country and several hilly areas have already seen rain with snowfall.

Under the influence of this weather system, the advisory said, the temperature is expected to range between 6°C and 8°C in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin.

The minimum temperature may drop to 2-4°C in Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Khairpur, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts.

“Minimum temperature may fall to 3-5°C in Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Allah Yar,” it added.

The Met Office has forecast that the weather in Karachi is expected to remain “cold and dry” in the next two days with the mercury dropping to 7°C on Monday early morning.

The maximum temperatures in the city will range between 21-25°C from Jan 21 to Jan 23.

The department recorded 10°C as the minimum temperature in Karachi on Saturday with 25-30 per cent and 63pc humidity in the evening and morning, respectively.

It has warned about foggy conditions that may affect transportation means and that air quality may be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Travellers are advised to remain cautious to avoid any untoward situation.
