Man shoots wife dead

RAWALPINDI: A woman was shot dead by her husband while a case was registered against a police officer on the complaint of his wife, who claimed that she was tortured by him over a minor issue in Sadiqabad area on Wednesday.

Umair Ikhlaq told police that a couple had rented the ground portion of his house about four months ago, while he lived with his family in the upper portion.

He said he heard the sound of gunfire when he got up to offer Fajr prayer on Wednesday, adding that he came out of his room and found the suspect brandishing his pistol and hurriedly leaving the house. After he left, Ikhlaq said he walked into the suspect’s room and found his wife Rina Baksh lying in a pool of blood on her bed.

He said he immediately called the emergency police and people from the neighbourhood, adding that the couple often quarrelled over petty issues.

Later, police called Punjab Forensic Science experts at the crime scene and shifted the body to the hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, a wife of a police official was allegedly tortured by her husband.

The victim, who is a mother of four, stated in the first information report (FIR) that her husband was an addict and would torture her.

The FIR further stated that her husband after reaching home at 3am asked her to prepare meal for him and she did. However, when she served it to him, he started beating her, saying that she had not cooked it properly.
