Robbers looting foreigners arrested

ISLAMABAD: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police on Tuesday busted a gang which had robbed local and foreign residents, including a diplomat over the last few weeks.

According to police sources, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ilyas had constituted a team in response to the growing number of robberies on the streets of Islamabad. The team managed to trace the robbers and arrested two people and seized looted valuables and weapons found in their possession.

During preliminary investigation, the men arrested confessed to robbing a number of people in Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Aabpara, Karachi Company and Islamabad Highway areas. They also confessed to snatching a mobile phone and wallet from the Deputy Head In-charge Mission Embassy of Bosnia as she was walking near her house in Sector F-7 on May 18.

The men also confessed to robbing another foreigner in Sector F-6/2 on February 2 and a Pakistani woman near Jinnah Super on March 25. They also looted an advocate near Khanna Bridge Service Road on March 12, 2014.

Further investigations are underway.
