ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration will hold a grand public event as part of Independence Day celebrations on Friday.

The “Islamabad City Parade 2026” at D-Chowk is set to start after 5pm.

According to CDA, the event will feature free entry for the general public with separate enclosures designated for families and comprehensive security arrangements put in place.

“Mega event will showcase a variety of performances and activities. These include displays by various contingents of the Islamabad Police, as well as a musical concert featuring renowned singers Nimra Mehra, Sahir Ali Bagga and other prominent artists. Additionally, a puppet show for children, colorful floats, mascots and a number of other entertaining activities have been planned along with spectacular fireworks display,” a press release said.

CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf along with relevant senior officers conducted a site visit to D-Chowk to review the arrangements and rehearsal.

Speaking to media, Mr Ashraf remarked that national parades used to be held at this very venue on March 23 many years ago before being discontinued. He said the parade was being revived and now it was open for everyone to participate.

Mr Ashraf stated that excellent arrangements had been made for families. The routes leading to D-Chowk will be completely open for those attending the event. He said that a historic fireworks display will also be held at the location to mark Independence Day. Similarly, various bands and folk artists will perform at the event.

“Six thousand seats have been arranged for the public, and even if fifteen thousand people come, there will be ample space.” He added that since this is such a large event, medical teams will set up their camps, and separate seating arrangements will also be provided for families. If any disabled person requires a wheelchair, it will also be provided.

The CDA chief appealed to the general public to participate in the historic Independence Day event.

“In past, D-Chowk used to be known as protests site, but now on direction of Interior Minister, we are using it for public entertainment. Recently, large number of football fans enjoyed FIFA world cup final at this venue. While on Friday, large numbers of people will celebrate independence Day with numbers of activities,” said an official of CDA involved in preparation of the event.
