Balochistan Assembly passes resolution against Islamabad sit-ins

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Saturday adopted a unanimous resolution against ongoing anti-government sit-ins by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Islamabad.

Members from the treasury and opposition benches lashed out at PTI chairman Imran Khan and PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri over what they called hatching conspiracies against the fragile democratic system in the country.

Balochistan Information Minister Rahim Ziaratwal tabled the resolution when the session started with Haji Abdul Malik Kakar, member of the panel, in the chair.

"This house strongly condemns illegal sit-ins in the federal capital," Ziaratwal told the house while commenting on feasibility of the resolution.

The members also vowed to defend the Constitution and democracy in their stormy speeches in support of the system.

"We are on one page when it comes to democracy," said opposition leader Maulana Wasey who belongs to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).

The house demanded of the federal government to find an amicable solution to the Islamabad agitation and pave the way for smooth governance in the country.

"We stand by democracy and the Constitution," Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Awami National Party (ANP) legislator, assured the ruling coalition.

Members from the ruling National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) and opposition parties JUI-F and ANP spoke at length against the Islamabad sit-ins and vowed to defend the democratic system in the country.

The resolution was unanimously passed by the house when the chair put it for voting.

In the meantime, ruling coalition partner with the Balochistan government, PKMAP held a protest meeting against Azadi and Inqilab marches on Bacha Khan Chowk, the commercial hub of Quetta city.

The party workers marched on different roads of the city and chanted full-throated slogans against Imran and Tahirul Qadri in support of the present government.

The PKMAP leaders expressed determination to defend institutions and democracy in the country at all costs.
