ISLAMABAD Aurangzeb Mehmund, Zahir Shah and Sheikh Saqib cruised into the next round of the eighth Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Open Squash Championship played at the Mushaf Squash Complex here on Monday.

In the day's opening fixture, Aurangzeb from Punjab walloped Shah Nawaz in 37 minutes.

Aurangzeb clinched the match 11-8, 11-6, 11-3 against sloppy Shah Nawaz.

Zahir Shah from the NWFP defeated Adil Atlas 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 while Sheikh Saqib from Punjab sidelined Haroon Samad 11-3, 11-9, 11-9.

Meanwhile, in the girls' event, Monisa from Punjab created a stir defeating Neha Khan from Sindh 11-13, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4 during a short 19-minute decider.

Sadia Gul from the PAF thrashed Aroma from Punjab 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 while Gul Zaman from Punjab defeated Samar Anjum of the same province 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7.

In the day's last fixture, Amna Latif from Punjab beat Kainat during the 23-minute encounter, winning it 11-5, 11-3, 8-11, 13-11.

The Punjab Squash Association is organising the event, which carries a prize purse of Rs500,000 for boys and US$2,000 for girls.

Sixty-four boys and 24 girls will test their mettle during the six-day non-ranking PSA event, however, the Women International Squash Players Association (WISPA) recognised it as an international event.
