LAHORE, Oct 27 Two-goal Shaharyar steered Islamabad to a 3-1 win against Pakistan Academy in the opening match of the PHF Junior Super Hockey League at the National Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday.

Islamabad led the first half 1-0.

Shaharyar put Islamabad 1-0 ahead scoring a field goal in the 19th minute. In the second half, Shaharyar doubled the lead in the 37th minute, converting a short-corner into goal.

The Academy team showed its strength to reduce the lead when Zohaib Ashraf cashed in on a short-corner in the 48th minute to make it 2-1. But Kamran Asif's goal in the 68th minute through a penalty-stroke strengthened the lead, which remained intact till the final whistle.

The second match between Lahore and Peshawar and third between Faisalabad and Karachi are on the cards late on Wednesday.

In the other match of the day, two goals by Arsalan helped Lahore crush Peshawar 7-0. The winners scored just one in the first half and added three each in next two halves to complete the tally.

Ali Shah struck the opener in the 20th minute, through a field attempt. Mushtaq banged home with a short-corner conversion in the 27th minute, while Mohammad Irfan fired the third in the 35th minute, also converting a penalty-corner.

Ripping through the defenses of the visitors, Hafiz Umair (40th minute) made it 4-0, before Arslan hit his first goal to make it 5-0 in the 53rd minute. Safeer Hussain further upset the beleaguered Peshawar with a field goal in the 64th minute, before Arslan scoring his second and final goal of the match in the 69th, crowning a field attempt to make the tally.
