Provincial hockey elections conclude

LAHORE, Dec 5 Elections process at provincial hockey associations level completed on Saturday.

According to the results, Rao Waseem Khan was elected as president of the Punjab Hockey Association for the term of four years while Olympian Rana Mujahid was re-elected as secretary.

In Sindh, Gulfraz Ahmed Khan and Saleem Rao unanimously re-elected as president and secretary respectively.

Saleem Rao was re-elected despite charges of embezzlement of funds by Sindh Sports Minister Dr Mohammad Ali Shah in the recent past for not entering a Sindh team in the All Pakistan Shaheed Benazir Bhutto hockey tournament in Rawalpindi.

Mohammad Saeed Khan was elected as chairman of the NWFP Hockey Association while Latifullah Alizai and Syed Zahir Shah were elected as president and secretary respectively.

Naeem Rehman Awan was elected as president of the Islamabad Hockey Association while Syed Zia Shah was elected as secretary.

The elections of the Pakistan Hockey Federation will be held next month in which Qasim Zia and Asif Bajwa are likely to be retained as president and secretary, as their like-minded groups have won in the provinces.

Qasim Zia is personally monitoring the elections process.

Meanwhile, election commissioner of the PHF, Rao Iftikhar Ahmed, will hear complaints against scrutiny and elections of different districts of Punjab on Dec 12.
