Two gangs smashed in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, April 26: City police on Saturday claimed to have arrested six members of two gangs of dacoits and robbers, including their ring leaders, after encounters and recovered a huge quantity of illegal arms and looted goods from their possession.

DPO Saud Aziz told newsmen that Garjakh police had arrested a four-member gang of inter-district dacoits in Kotli Rustam area along with its ring leader, Muhammad Ali alias Mundi, after an exchange of fire.

He pointed out that Muhammad Ali, Niaz, Abid and Akbar had looted Rs300,000 in cash from a beverage factory near Khiali Bypass intersection a few days ago. He said they had also committed dozens of dacoities and robberies in police uniform in various districts of the Punjab.

The DPO said police also recovered a 12 bore double barrel gun, a triple-two rifle, two 44 bore rifles, a 30 bore pistol and 350 cartridges besides looted goods from the arrested outlaws.

He said the Baghbanpura police arrested two notorious dacoits — Amir and Zahid — from their hideout at Naushera Road after a brief encounter.

The police also seized from them two cars, four motorcycles, two revolvers, two 30 bore pistols and several cartridges.

RELEASED: At least 75 prisoners involved in minor cases were released from the Central Jail on the orders of the district and sessions judge here on Saturday.

During his visit to the Central Jail, DSJ Riazul Hassan took a round of various barracks and jail compound and expressed his satisfaction over the cleanliness situation.

MOTORWAY POLICE: The National Highway and Motorway Police claimed to have set right the traffic system on the GT Road from Kharian to Lahore after taking over the control.

The NH&MP also hinted that around 25 stops for public transport vehicles would be built in various cities and towns on this section.

NH&MP SSP Shariq Jamal and Wazirabad section DSP Tauqir Ahmad said here on Saturday that vehicle crews were being educated about traffic laws.
