KARACHI, June 19 Gulzar Firoz, the president of the Sindh Seniors Tennis Association, has vowed to make the next National Seniors tennis championship more attractive for upcountry players.

“I assure you to go extra mile by offering better packages particularly, to the outstation players, to make it true national event,” he told reporters at a press conference held at Karachi Club on Friday to unveil details of Peek Freans National Seniors tennis championship which runs from June 26 to July 1.

The event, which is being held in the city after two years, will be played in 40-plus singles and doubles, 50-plus doubles and 60-plus doubles.

Earlier, president of Pakistan Seniors Tennis Association (PSTA), Khwaja Saeed Hai, emphasised upon the importance of Seniors tennis which is played globally.

“Veterans world over pay for their travel, entry fee and for accommodation from their pocket, just for the sake of earning world ranking points,” he remarked.

Responding to queries, secretary of the Sindh Tennis Association (STA) Khalid Rehmani said he has always offered extra incentives to upcountry players whenever any competition had taken place in the city in the past.

“Participation of veteran Davis Cupper Rashid Malik in the Pakistan International Seniors Tennis championship here last year made the event more glamorous,” he added.

Secretary Karachi Club Wahid Qadir, tournament director Altaf Hussain, and sponsors representative Adeel Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
