Tariq in Asian boxing quarters

KARACHI, June 8 Lightweight boxer Tariq Zia of Pakistan cruised into the quarter-final round of the Asian Boxing Championship after beating Hong Kong's Wong Wai Ming on points.

According to the message received here on Monday, Tariq enjoyed the upper hand against Wong Wai with swift moments and consistent scoring with jabs and uppercuts.

After 1-1 draw in the opening round, Tariq got 5-2 lead in the second round and won the bout 9-6 in the third.

Pakistan's other boxer Mohammad Ali fought hard against Kyrgyzstan's Omurbek Malabekov before going down 6-10.

Earlier, Mohammad Waseem knocked out of the compe- tition after going 0-8 down against Korea's Jong Chol in the bantamweight bout. —APP
