DADU, April 25: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz on Friday organized a public gathering in Sann, Dadu district, to mark the eighth death anniversary of the late G. M. Syed, founder of the Jeay Sindh Tehrik.

Speaking on the occasion, JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi blamed inequity in distribution of irrigation water for the collapse of Sindh’s agriculture and economy.

Accusing a certain province of usurping Sindh’s resources, including its employment opportunities, he said that the JSQM would stage a big rally in Karachi in the near future to protest against the construction of the greater Thal Canal, Kalabagh dam, and water shortage in Sindh.

JSQM secretary-general Abdul Wahid Arisar paid rich tribute to the late G.M. Syed, saying that the founder of the Jeay Sindh movement had taught a great deal about preserving heritage, economy and nature.

Others, who also spoke on the occasion, included Shafi Karnani, Shabbir Jamali, Mohammad Rahimoo and Manzoor Ahmed Memon.

Leaders of the Jeay SIndh Students Federation, the Jeay Sindh Porhiat Sangat and the Jeay Sindh Hari Tehrik also addressed the gathering.

In a related development, a torch-bearing rally was taken out by the Jeay Sindh Mahaz, including the family members of the late G. M. Syed in Sann on Thursday night.

JSM chairman Syed Zain Shah, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, Huzoor Bakhsh, Agha Qamar, Rasool Bux Thebo, Riaz Chandio, Faizullah Chandio and Manzoor Kalhoro, led the rally.

Later, a musical programme was held at the residence of the late leader.
