KARACHI, April 20: A labourer died and seven others were injured when the roof of an under-construction godown collapsed in Hawkesbay Road on Sunday evening, the police and the Edhi Foundation said.

A senior police officer said a rice godown was under construction in main Hawkesbay Road when its roof collapsed suddenly. One labourer died and seven others were injured.

The Edhi Foundation said rescue teams and 10 ambulances were sent to the place of incident. One labourer was found dead under the rubble and four injured labourers were rescued from the rubble. He said a few labourers were still trapped in the rubble. Efforts were being made to rescue them.

Officials of the fire department also arrived at the spot along with the police for rescue work.

The dead and injured were taken to Civil Hospital.

Sources at the hospital said the dead labourer could not be identified immediately.
