KARACHI, April 20: Sindh Minister for Revenue, Altaf Hussain Unar, said here on Sunday that the province was facing shortage of water during Kharif the crop season, so Sindh should be given its due share of water according to the 1991 accord.

In a statement Unar said the revenue collection would be less this year because the crops were affected due to shortage of water.

He pointed out that the provincial government had already declared 43 Talukas of 15 districts as calamity-hit and revenue collection from those areas had been deferred for three months.

Unar said the situation in the areas downstream of the Kotri barrage was very serious as they were not receiving water these days, and the sowing season was at hands. He said that, according to the 1991 Indus River Apportionment Accord at least 10 million acre feet water was to be discharged downstream of the Kotri barrage.—APP
