GUJRANWALA, April 16: The joint action committee of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) has threatened to boycott FA annual examinations to be commenced from April 26 throughout the Punjab if their demands are not accepted.
At a meeting held here on Wednesday presided over by PPLA coordinator Prof Mahboob Ahmad, the participants alleged the government had failed to fulfil its promise of reinstating sacked teachers and withdrawing the denationalization policy.
They said teachers would take out protest processions across the province, including the provincial headquarters in Lahore, on April 22 in favour of their demands.
They alleged that the government wanted to close the doors of education for the poor by taking steps like the denationalization policy.
They demanded that the notification regarding the constitution of the board of governors at educational institutions and civil hospitals should also be withdrawn.
INJURED: About a dozen commuters and public transport vehicles’ crew were injured on Wednesday on various routes during scuffles when transporters declined to withdraw the enhanced fares after the reduction in prices of petroleum products.
The transporters had enhanced the fares twice arbitrarily within the last two months when prices of petroleum products were raised by the government. Besides, the transporters were also involved in overcharging and overloading at Naushera Virkan-Gujranwala, Kamoki-Wazirabad, Qila Dedar Singh and Alipur Chattha, Eminabad and Wahando routes.
Despite the reduction in petrol prices twice in a month, the transporters did not withdraw the increase in fares which led to free-for-all fights between passengers and transporters.
