ISLAMABAD A six-member technical assessment team of the United Nations on Wesneday met with the Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik in Islamabad, DawnNews reported.

The team, which arrived on Tuesday, is preparing for an international fact-finding commission to look into the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

Sources say the UN investigation team, during its three-day visit, will meet senior officials of the interior and foreign affairs ministries as well as intelligence officers to probe the December 27, 2007 incident.

The investigators will also visit Liaquat Bagh, where Ms Bhutto was assassinated.

The UN fact-finding mission is likely to start its investigation by the first week of next month, a source said.

The team, headed by Mark Quarterman, will prepare a report on technical and security assistance which will be later handed over to the central commission.
