KARACHI Army and Navy are engaged in relief operations in areas affected by Cyclone Phet in Sindh and Balochistan.

Karachi Corps Commander Gen Shahid Iqbal visited Badin, Mirpur Sakro, Gharo and Thatta and supervised relief operations.

An ISPR press release said army personnel had started draining out water accumulated in different areas. They cleared the Thatta-Karachi road which was inundated near Gujjo village after heavy rainfall.

Army personnel also worked for dewatering the JPMC in Karachi.

Naval commands in Karachi and coastal areas also went into action in Sindh and Balochistan and transported 55 tons of dry ration and relief goods for the cyclone-affected people.

The relief goods include flour, rice, sugar, pulses, cooking oil, milk and medicines.

PNS Khaiber has been deployed to transport relief goods from Ormara to Gwadar.

PN's 'Sea King' helicopter air-dropped food items and relief goods for passengers of 17 vehicles stranded between Gwadar and Ormara.

Four patients with serious head injuries have also been shifted from Gwadar to the PNS Shifa in Karachi by a PN aircraft.
