KARACHI, Dec 6: A special meeting of the governing body of the KDA was held here on Thursday to discuss the reopening of the KDA’s pre-stressed pipe factory.

Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Husain, who is also the chairman of the governing body of the KDA, presided over the meeting.

Discussing the matter, the city Nazim said he had examined the issue thoroughly and expressed his opinion on the issue. Based on his views the governing body took the following decisions:

I. The factory should be shifted from the present location to the proposed location near Ghagar Phatak, as decided by the governor at the meeting held on Jan 11 this year.

2. The KW&SB should run the factory at the new location, after obtaining lease from the KDA.

3. If it was not possible to shift the factory to the new location, the KDA should leave it out to the KW&SB at the present location, on a short-term lease basis, as per the decision of the governing body dated 9-8-2001.

The land of the factory would continue to be the property of the KDA or its successor. In this transaction no loss of any sort whatsoever would accrue to the KDA.

The governing body also discussed the issue regarding the cases of 15 officers of the KBCA and directed the DG KDA to appoint a committee to thoroughly examine the cases of these officers and submit its reports within eight weeks.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, the Director-General of the Sindh Kutchi Abadis Authority, Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui, Secretary Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Sindh Major Qamar Zaman (retd), the Director Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Sindh, the Director-General KDA, Brig Syed Zaheer Kadri (retd), and members of the governing body, including Ardeshir Cowasjee and Syed Mazhar Ali.—APP
