KARACHI, April 15: Despite redeployment of some 5,477 teachers and recruitment of 3,000 teachers on contract, more than 1,500 primary, secondary and higher secondary schools are still not functioning in Sindh due to provincial government not sanctioning required teaching posts.

According to official statistics, 212 schools were made functional by the government, through redeploying 789 teachers, and 57 schools were made functional by recruiting 433 teachers in Mirpurkhas district, where the total number of schools, made functional, was 269, while 42 schools still remained close.

In Badin district, total 360 schools were made functional, of which 136 by redeploying 396 teachers and 224 schools by recruiting teachers in the same number, while some 20 schools were still not working in the district. In Mithi district, 36 schools were still closed, whereas 448 schools were made operational through redeployment of 507 teachers and 140 teachers were recruited. In Sukkur, some eight teachers were redeployed to make the same number of schools functional, while through recruiting 104 teachers, 64 schools were made functional out of the total 72 schools made functional, still 25 schools were not working.

In Ghotki district, teachers redeployed, 143, schools made functional, 115, teachers recruited, 53, schools made functional 51, total schools, 166, still closed, 2.

In Nawabshah district, Some 103 schools were made functional by redeploying 103 teachers, while 134 schools were made functional by recruiting 173 teachers, schools made functional, 134, total 237, still closed, 92.

Shikarpur: teachers redeployed, 127, schools made functional, 44, teachers recruited, 76, schools made functional, 30, total schools, 74, still closed, 14.

Hyderabad: teachers recruited, 220, schools made functional, 55, total, 55, still closed, 213.

Dadu: teachers redeployed, 584, schools made functional, 145, teachers recruited, 79, schools made functional, 74, total schools, 219, still closed, 179.

Naushehro Feroz: teachers redeployed, 216, schools made functional, 70, teachers recruited, 175, schools made functional, 72, total 142.
