Bomb planted on Gilgit river defused

GILGIT, Oct 12 The Bomb disposal squad defused heavy explosive material that was kept in a pressure cooker and planted under a suspension bridge over the Gilgit River.

A senior police official told this correspondent requesting not to be named that police along with bomb disposal squad rushed to the site after getting information about the bomb. They cordoned off the area and started search for the device, which was later found underneath the bridge.

The official said an anonymous phone call informed the police that there was a bomb planted on the suspension bridge.

The official said that the device was defused and a case had been registered.

BISP SURVEY The Banazir Income Support Programme started its survey in five districts of Gilgit-Baltistan to identify the level of impoverishment excluding Diamer and Ghanche where it had already carried out the survey.

An official of BISP Ajmal Baig told this correspondent that a local NGO had been assigned this task which is being monitored by the political and social activists.
