LAHORE, Feb 26 The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) conducted its first consultative workshop on the Medium Term Policy (MTP) here on Friday which was largely attended by all stakeholders from public and private sectors.

The participants, including representatives of federal and provincial government and international agencies, academicians and civil society organisations, stressed the need for minimising hurdles that had been retarding the growth of alternative energy sector in Pakistan.

They stressed the need for simplified procedures, feed in tariff and other incentives through one-window facilities in actual terms, which they believed would largely help create an enabling environment for investment in ARE sector in Pakistan.

The participants took keen interest in the deliberations. They were by and large supportive of the policy recommendations, calling them more investment-friendly, which they believed would help build a strong base for the development and promotion of ARE technologies in the country.

AEDB Chief Executive Arif Alauddin appreciated the participants for their continued support, which they had been extending to prepare MTP papers on ARE since beginning.

He assured the participants that their concerns and recommendations would be addressed to in the final meeting to be held in Islamabad after completion of the remaining consultative workshops being organised at other provincial capitals.

Federal Water and Power Minister Pervez Ashraf will chair the final meeting in which all stakeholders, including donors, will participate.
