HYDERABAD, Feb 17 Hyderabad zone DIG Tahir Naveed has indicated that a nationalist group was involved in the recent Dadu blast and said it is not similar to the recent blasts in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference along with Dadu DPO Ghazi Salahuddin and SP investigations Khalid Mustafa Korai here on Wednesday, the DIG said that an IED (improvised explosive device) bomb had been used for the blast.

Answering a question he said that the investigation pointed to the groups which were previously involved in such blasts.

Activists of Jeay Sindh Muttaheda Mahaz (JSMM) were earlier booked on charges of involvement in a series of blasts near Hyderabad bypass and in Hyderabad city, Jamshoro, Dadu and Sanghar districts.

Police have picked up Abdul Sattar Kalhoro, an activist of JSMM.

“The investigation is heading in that direction,” he said when asked whether the groups which were behind the recent blasts were involved.

The DIG avoided naming any particular group. “We are looking into different aspects,” he said.

When he was pointed out that the Dadu DPO had first described the incident as a case of suicide bombing and later retracted the claim, the DIG said “no one should jump to conclusions so quickly and I will advise the DPO not to make statements in haste”.

He confirmed that a suspect was in custody and was being interrogated.
