KARACHI, April 14: Paper merchants, after observing a complete shutter-down on Monday in protest against the arrest of their fellow dealer, have decided continue the strike for another day, Tuesday.

An emergency meeting of the office-bearers of All Pakistan Paper Merchants Association (APPMA) has been scheduled for Tuesday to decide future course of action.

Earlier, Customs authorities arrested Mohammad Saleem, an indenter, for his alleged involvement in under-invoicing in the import of paper and claimed that it had resulted in evasion of duty amounting to millions of rupees.

Chairman of the association, Abdul Majeed Memon, said the indenter was arrested in a dispute of Rs240,000 and produced before a court.

Customs officials and paper merchants are locked in a battle of over-invoicing for quite some time. Finance minister had, last week, assured the paper merchants that the issue would be resolved in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Mr Memon has urged the minister as well as the CBR chairman to intervene into the affair and resolve the matter.
