KARACHI, April 14: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has said Karachi lacks water resources and leakage from pipelines and unjust distribution aggravates the water shortage problem.

Efforts are, however, being made to overcome the water shortage problem.

He was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the UC-1 of Saddar Town on Monday.

He said the city government was making all efforts to overcome the problem of leakages because of which a lot of water went to waste.

Work on a project was also under way after the completion of which the city would get 100 million gallons water per day from the Indus River. All these measures were aimed at overcoming the water shortage problem.

He said unjust distribution of water was another cause of shortage in some localities and this was largely due to manipulations in valve operation. Some localities get water daily, but adjacent areas did not get water for 3-4 successive days, he said, adding that the city government was paying attention to this problems also.

He held out an assurance that arrangements would be made to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Ghanchi Para. He warned that corruption would not be tolerated.

He said he would visit every town, with the town Nazim and officers of the water and sanitation department of the city government, to inspect water supply situation.—PPI
