Indus level rises near Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH, Aug 22 Flood situation worsened in the Shaheed Benazirabad district on Sunday after the water flow increased from 965,000 to 1,010,000 cusec.

Vulnerable points came under more pressure and reports of erosion were received from a number of points between Mekaro Dhoro and Pir Chatan Shah and between Pir Churaro and Bachalpur. Besides, the volume of water flowing from the river into Chandan Mori increased near Mud Bungalow.

Member of the flood relief committee Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that the situation was critical at some points.

He said he and irrigation officials had visited the vulnerable points along the river deployed adequate number of personnel. He said that the water level would recede after a couple of days.

He said that an NGO had been found distributing expired drugs was caught near the Mud area and the EDO Health issued directives to ban the organisation.

Administrator and DCO Shaheed Benazirabad Jamal Mustafa Syed said the condition was stable because pre-emptive measures had been undertaken and there was no threat. He expressed the hope that water would smoothly pass through the region.
