Nawabi Juloos taken out in Thatta

Published September 24, 2009

THATTA, Sept 23 Traditional Nawabi Juloos, an event to promote religious and communal harmony, dominated Eid festivities here on Eid day.

The event is organized since centuries to mark reconciliation between two religious groups after a clash between them during the regime of Governor Amir Khan in the Mogul era.

Wearing an Aba (long coat) and a turban with a crown made of gold and holding a sword in one hand and a bouquet in the other, Syed Aijaz Shah Shirazi, the head of the Shirazi family, led the rally while riding a tastefully decorated horse.

People of different casts and creeds and youngsters carrying green and red flags marched on the beat of 'Naghara' (drums) mounted on camels through main thoroughfares of the town.

The rally ended at Shirazi house where Aijaz Shirazi delivered a speech and called for promoting religious harmony and brotherhood among different sects and casts.

The organisers said that similar rallies were still taken out in Delhi.
