HYDERABAD, July 29 Awami Ittehad Party (youth wing) chairman Karim Khan Jatoi said on Thursday that the government's writ had completely disappeared in Dadu and a reign of terror had been unleashed against 'opponents' in the district.

Mr Jatoi who is former district nazim of Dadu said a news conference along with other youth wing leaders of Hyderabad that on an average, 20 motorcycles were snatched daily and robberies took place in broad daylight in the district.

The government property valued at Rs35 million had been occupied by land-grabbers who threw out even a DSP whose official residence was located there, he alleged.

Karim Jatoi who is son of former federal minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi said that the only work the government had done in Dadu was to replace plaques giving details of construction work done during his tenure as nazim.

He said that he had reopened 300 closed schools out of 600 and asked Sindh education minister, who also belonged to Dadu, how many closed schools he had reopened so far.

He said that the price hike and loadshedding had made people's lives miserable and the poor were forced to either sell their children or commit suicide. Nothing was being done for the welfare of people and only ministers and advisers were drawing benefits from the present regime, he alleged.

He said that Ittehad was founded by his father with the sole aim of ameliorating the lot of the poor.

DEMO Activists of the Jeay Sindh Mutahedda Mahaz (JSMM), including women and children, held a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday in protest against police raid on the residence of secretary general of the party, Muzaffar Bhutto, in Jamshoro.

They raised slogans against the DPO of Jamshoro and SHO of Jamshoro police station and warned that if excesses against the party leaders and workers did not stop, a movement would be launched throughout the province.
