RAWALPINDI Police and security agencies have been boosting security in vital installations and sites in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in the light of intelligence reports that a group of ten terrorists has infiltrated the county with an objective to carry out Mumbai style operations, Dawn has learnt.
 
The source said quoting the intelligence reports that the terror group has been tasked to occupy hotels, government office buildings, Presidency, Prime Minister house/secretariat, National Assembly, and buildings in the diplomatic enclave, either singularly or at more than one location, depending upon the opportunity and to take occupants hostage.
 
The source said the authorities concern have been directed to maintain heightened security measures until the threat is over.
 
Police visibility has been intensified in the twin cities and extra police has also been deployed in various areas and around important buildings and police installations.
 
Earlier on Feb 27, the federal government had intimated to the home department Punjab, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Capital Territory to enhance security measures due to continuing terror threat.

The authorities were informed, citing intelligence, that ten Taliban fighters and two suicide bombers have been dispatched to Rawalpindi.

The authorities warned of an increased risk of terrorist attacks and security measures are being tightened in the light of intelligence that miscreants intend to attack unspecified embassies and hotels in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
