Hashmi for Benazir’s return

Published April 10, 2003

KASUR, April 9: Acting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi has urged the government to allow both Mian Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto to return to the country.

He made this statement while addressing the district bar association here on Wednesday.

He refused to accept Gen Pervez Musharraf’s presidency and the LFO and asked the general to adhere to the constitution. He said a single person could neither make himself a president nor amend the constitution. The LFO must be discussed in the parliament, he maintained.

Mr Hashmi said that Nawaz Sharif had rejected billions of dollars of aid from America, tested nuclear weapons and refused to accept any kind of pressure. He said Pakistan now had 102 nuclear weapons. The people of Pakistan would defend the nuclear programme, he added.

The president of PML Lawyers Forum in Kasur, Bashir Ahmad, and DBA president Sardar Qurban Dogar also spoke on the occasion.
