KARACHI, April 9: A policeman and a bandit died in an encounter on I.I. Chundrigar Road on Wednesday.

Police said two armed men barged into a shop at the Uni-Plaza and looted cash at gunpoint from the counter.

As the shopkeeper raised an alarm, two policemen, Afzal and Latif, posted at a nearby police picket, challenged them.

Later, an exchange of fire took place which resulted in the death of policeman Mohammad Sharif and an unidentified suspect. The other suspect, however, escaped.

KILLED: A middle-aged man was shot dead in Mochko early on Wednesday morning.

Abdul Quddoos, 30, barged into the house of Lakhti Khan, 55, and shot him dead in the Ittehad Town on some old enmity.

Police said the suspect later handed himself to the police.

BODY FOUND: Unknown persons killed a young man and later dumped his body in a drain in Korangi near Darul Salam Society. Police said victim’s throat was slit and he was wearing jeans and a pink shirt.

His body was taken to JPMC for postmortem examination.

ACCIDENT: A minor boy, Ahmed Usman, 3, was crushed by a water-tanker in Al-Falah Society late on Tuesday night.

Following the incident, the enraged residents set the vehicle on fire and beat up the driver.

The minor died on the spot, and his body was shifted to JPMC for postmortem examination.

In another incident, Luqman, 25, a conductor of a speeding minibus died when his vehicle overturned on Sharea Faisal near Karsaz late Tuesday night.
