LAHORE Nine countries have confirmed their participation in a joint training session to be held in Pakistan to prepare for October's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, according to the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF).

 

“It is a good omen for the development of boxing in Pakistan and hopefully the camp will start within this month at a suitable venue,” PBF Secretary Mohammad Akram Khan said.

 

The PBF had invited a number of foreign team for a 45-day long camp and nine countries have accepted the invitation and they are in process of sending the names and travel schedule for the trip, Khan stated.

 

Malaysia, Central Republic of Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Rwanda, Nigeria and Uganda are the countries who have confirmed their entries,” he added.

 

Mauritius Boxing Association, Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association will each train for several weeks in Pakistan, according to official word received from them.

 

Nigeria Boxing Federation will send 18-member contingent included 12 boxers and six officials while the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation will send 10 boxers and one coach. Their schedule is yet to be finalized.

 

“It is very useful opportunity for our boxers to train with a good combination of quality boxers of different nations to enhance their experience,” Khan said of the joint session. -APP
