ISLAMABAD Top seed Aqeel Khan cruised into the semi-finals of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court tennis championship at the PTF Complex here on Friday.

Aqeel outclassed Rashid Malik in straight sets. In another quarter-final, Asim Shafik engineered a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory against Khurram Nazir.

Jalil Khan defeated his younger brother Yasir Khan 6-1, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals. Heera Ashiq hammered Muneer Ashiq 6-1, 6-4.

Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan won the title of men's doubles event beating Yasir Khan and Tanveer Ashiq 6-1, 6-4.

In the boys' U-17 event, Heera Ashiq defeated Mohammad Abid 6-3, 6-3 to qualify for semi-finals.

Samir Iftikhar won his match against Malik Abdul Rehman 6-1, 6-2.

Sadan-ul-Haq was victorious over Jibran-ul-Haq, while Zohair Raza defeated Ahmed Chaudhry.

In the boys' U-13 category, top seed Kashan-ul-Haq qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Mohammad Mudassir in a tough match.

Kashan won the first set 4-2 but was down 2-4 in the second set. He, however, made a good comeback in the final set, beating his opponent 4-1.

Other players who have also qualified for the quarter-finals are Hamza bin Asif, Afnan Almas, Hanain Manzoor, Saad Zafar, Abdal Haider, Imad Amir and Talha Zubair.
