LAHORE, April 6: Long shot bay colt Muqaddar outpaced his seven rivals to win the Kalam Cup run over 1400m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman with great precision Muqaddar overtook front-runner Zargar in the home stretch to beat him by two-and-a-quarter-of-a-length.

Fancied bay colt Super Star, who was last to come out of the starting stall came staggering far behind to finish third place, half-a-length further behind while Prince Well completed the frame a distance back.

At no stage it looked that Aamar Parvez the rider of Super Star was serious to ride the colt.

Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the dismal showing of 40 to 100 favourite Super Star.

They ordered an inquiry and till then stopped the entries of Super Star in races and also stood down jockey Aamar Parvez pending the inquiry report. This was the fourth race in racing order.

The supporting and third event, the Kalam Plate, a class IV division II run over 1400 metres was won by Moment To Moment, who beat Dare To Dream by two-and-a-half lengths in a late burst of speed. My Own Business and Lover’s Lady completed the frame among ten starters.

The outstanding performance of the day came in the second race when chestnut filly Key Guy Princess led all the way home to win narrowly from late-rushing Green Hill.

Beena Roy Baby and Canwara completed the board. This was second successive win of five to four favourite filly Key Guy Princess trained by Choudhry Mohammad Siddique.

Riding boy A. Aziz stole the day’s racing honours by bringing in a brace of winners. He rode home long shot Thunder Storm in the opener and then wound up the day through a facile win on Al Trui Princess in the sixth and last race of the day.
