KARACHI, April 6: Transporters operating between Karachi and Balochistan have expressed their readiness to move their business from existing sites if provided alternative sites in Hawkesbay area.

A representative of the Supreme Council of All Pakistan Transporters, Akhtar Saeed, said the Council had already offered construction of a general bus stand for inter-cities route vehicles on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

Such a terminus could be built at the starting end of Lyari Expressway, Gutter Baghicha and Northern Bypass, he suggested.

In various meetings with authorities, Mr Saeed said, the transporters appeared willing to shift their business from the existing sites. However, he maintained that till the completion of a new bus stand, the transporters should be allowed to continue operation from the available facilities.

He criticized the ongoing campaign against Balochistan-based transporters by Lyari Town administration and said that he failed to understand the Nazim’s silence over goods carriers who, he said, had been allotted alternative sites in Hawkesbay.

He accused the Nazim of playing tricks and reminded that the town administration had granted permission to a transporter for the construction of a D-class bus stand at Fareed Chowk and a B-class bus stand to another transporter on Chawkiwara Road.
