HYDERABAD, May 3 District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil inaugurated the 10-bed Khadeja hospital in Latifabad-8 which has been constructed at a cost of Rs20 million.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the hospital was equipped with x-ray and ultrasound machines, labour room, operation theatre and EPI facilities. He said that a dental surgeon, a gynaecologist, a child specialist, a radiologist and a pathologist besides other doctors and paramedical staff had been posted at the hospital where a lady health workers' training centre would be established soon.

He said it was a small dispensary but keeping in view the needs of the people of the area, it had been converted into a hospital. It would soon be converted into a 50-bed hospital and in due course of time, other health facilities would be made available there, he said.

Mr Jamil said that the district government was providing free medical facilities to poor and middle class people.

The district government had launched 1,523 development schemes at a cost of Rs15 billion which included those of schools, hospitals, parks, playgrounds, roads, flyovers, libraries, filter plants, sewage treatment plants, water pipelines and a food testing laboratory.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani, Naib Nazim Shujauddin Shaikh, district health monitoring committee chairman Dr Arif Razmi, EDO health Dr Bux Ali Pitafi and others also spoke on the occasion. A large number of union council nazims, councillors and people, including women, attended the inaugural ceremony.

SCHOOL The district nazim inaugurated a private higher secondary school in Qasimabad.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the teachers were held in high esteem in every civilised society and it was their to come up to the expectations of people.

He said that the district government was spending 65 per cent of its budget on education and had introduced English medium in 310 Urdu/Sindhi medium government schools to impart quality education to poor students.

He said that the district government was giving cash awards and commendatory certificates to meritorious students.

The controller of examination, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, Professor Mohsin Atta, said that it was equal responsibility of teachers and parents to eliminate cheating in the examinations.
