KARACHI, March 26: One person was injured when a big portion of the roof of a quarter in block 2 of the defunct KMC’s Lyari Quarters collapsed on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Inayat Masih.

Narrating the incident, a minority councillor of Lyari Town’s Union Council No. 6, Peter Bernard, pointed out that the entire building had been in a dilapidated condition for long.

He alleged that the concerned officials of the city government’s Works and Services Department had not been paying heed to the repeated calls for repair work.

Mr Bernard regretted that repair work was not carried out despite the fact that in a similar incident two persons had sustained injuries sometime back when roof of a balcony of other quarters in block 2 and 4 had collapsed.

He demanded of the concerned authorities to undertake the repair work of the quarters as well as other residential buildings of the defunct KMC before any major casualties took place.
