SWABI The World Food Programme, the United Nation Children's Fund and some non-governmental organisations have started repairing the educational institutions in Mardan and Swabi, which were damaged during the stay of the internally displaced persons of Malakand division.

WFP and Unicef officials said they had told the heads of the schools to prepare a detailed list of the damages.

A head teacher of a primary school said their loss was about Rs100,000 because the furniture had been damaged, the playground was no longer usable and the water supply system and washrooms had been choked. In addition, he said, rooms and the boundary walls were also damaged.

EDO (education) Mardan Hanif Ullah told this correspondent that IDPs stayed in 1,440 school buildings, which were in need of repair.
