Sahiwal jail official suspended

SAHIWAL, May 26 Inspector General (Prison) Nadeem Kokab Warraich has suspended from service the central jail superintendent and asked the deputy superintendent to leave the charge of his present post and immediately report back to Lahore.

There were complaints against both officials of financial irregularities, misappropriation, lack of mutual coordination and existence of a sharp divide between jail superintendent Naveed Rauf and deputy superintendent Noor Bhagela over administrative issues.

The sources said it was feared that the presence of both officers could lead to 'fight' among inmates.

The matter was reported to MNA Pir Imran Shah who later discussed the issue with the Punjab chief minister.

DIG (Prison) Mirza Shahid Aslam had paid a surprise visit to the central jail two days back and recovered cell phones other items from inmates during a search operation. He also detected financial irregularities in tukra funds. On DIG's report, the IG (prison) called back both the officials from duties and made them OSDs.

Meanwhile, Kamran Anjum and Shaikh Ikram have been elevated to the posts of jail superintendent and deputy superintendent, respectively.
