SANGHAR, Nov 14 Many farmers here do not plan to sow wheat because of increasing prices of fertiliser, seed, diesel and pesticides.

Instead, they would likely to keep the existing cotton crop till January-February which will give them additional cotton.

Farmers Sanwan Khan Mari, Akbar Jinjhi and Haji Ishaq said that DAP, which is essential for wheat crop, was available in the market for Rs2,500 to Rs2,600 per bag two weeks ago, but it was now selling at Rs3,100 to Rs3,200.

They said that the prices of nitrophos, triple super phosphate, single super phosphate and nitrogenous fertilisers have risen from Rs100 to Rs300.

They said there was shortage of quality wheat seed in the market and its price had shot up to Rs 2,100 to Rs2,800 per 50 kg depending on the brand and quality.

The farmers said that if they kept cotton crop beyond November-December, they could earn extra money without any investment and efforts. Therefore, they added, they saw no reason to sow wheat.
